Once I said to Charlie, who knows far more about everything than I do about anything: the road ahead goes nboth ways.
He said: I have no idea what that means.
Me neither, I realized, not that it mattered at the time because Charlie and I were sharing a meal and a beer.
But try it this way: Put two people back to back and tell them to walk. The road ahead just went both ways.
Now say bother were on the proverbial road of life.
Meaning what? That we should not envy where someone else goes? That all walk a path of their own? To accept ours as the only road we can travel?
Yes.
We all take missteps and detours and see others scramble up even as we fall down.
We all know the road goes one way and one other or may others and trick is to love wherever we happen to be walking.
Where you walk best is where you walk more like more like your heroes, more like yourself too, too.
Oddly, that road is always but a step away, no more than some other.
But maybe we need to be walking together to make that make sense? Or maybe it matters not if we can be together.
